Features of Ball lens and Measurement example for Ore

How to use the attachment of Ball lens?

1. Remove the standard lens and

attach the ball lens.

2. Press the lens against the sample, and make fine adjustments with

the Z-stage unit.

The merit of Ball lens

1. It can be measured only by applying a lens to the

sample

2. Efficient measurement for a thin sample

The working distance of the ball lens is very short, so you can measure the sample only by applying a lens to it easily.

Since the working distance of the standard lens is only a few millimeters, focus adjustment is required for any sample.

It can focus light efficiently for a thin sample, as the beam spot of the ball lens is small.

The beam spot of the standard lens is relatively large, and the signal intensity decreases if the sample thickness is insufficient.

The demerit of Ball lens

1. Lens contamination by sample contact

In most cases, the ball lens must be in contact with the sample, and the lens will become contaminated if the sample is dirty.

Please clean the ball lens before measuring another sample.

2. Precise focus adjustment is difficult.

If you measure a thin sample, precise focus adjustment is required.

The ball lens has a shallow depth of focus due to its large NA, which makes precise focus adjustment a bit difficult.
